The Top Oil Producing States In Nigeria As At 2020


 Various researches conducted had shown that Nigeria produces about 2.5 million barrels of crude oil daily, and it is majorly derived from the Niger Delta regions in the country.

The oil resources are generated from 7.5% of the country's land area.




The following states are the major and top contributors to the oil production in Nigeria:

1. Akwa-Ibom: This state is among the Niger Delta regions in the country and it is located in the South-Southern area of the country. It makes up to 31.4% of the total oil produced daily.

2. Delta: It is the second largest oil producing state in the country. Also located in the South-Southern region and also the main location of the Niger Delta as the name implies. It production level is 21.56% of the total crude oil output. It has a refinery and a petrochemical plant in Warri.

3. Rivers: This state was once the largest producer of oil before Akwa Ibom took over. It is also located in the Niger Delta region and contributes 21.43% to the total oil production. And it also refines more crude oil than any other state in Nigeria.

4. Bayelsa: This is the state where the first discovery of oil was made at Oloibiri in 1959. Also located in the Niger Delta and South-Southern region of Nigeria. It produces 18.07% of the country's oil produce.

5. Ondo: This is among the first oil producing state which is not located in the Niger Delta and South-Southern region of the country. It is located in the Southwestern region of the country. It makes an oil production level of 3.74% to the total oil produced in Nigeria.

6. Edo: This South-Southern state makes up to 2.06% of the total crude oil output, with a volume of 33,000 barrels per day. It is also blessed with other mineral resources like limestone, clay, gold, iron ore, fine sand and granite.

7. Imo: This state is located in the South-eastern region and it major oil zones are areas close to Rivers state such as Ohaji Egbema and Oguta. It makes up to 1.06% of the total crude oil output. The state is also blessed with lead, zinc, fine sand, clay and limestone.

8. Abia: This is another Southeastern oil producing state in Nigeria. It accounts for 0.68% of the oil output. It is also blessed with lead, zinc, fine sand and limestone.
