THE REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES NEEDED BY A TAX CONSULTANT.

1. Communication Skills: A tax consultant must have an effective communication skills. He/She must be bold to enough to speak with the clients, press and government over tax matters.
Effective communication skills is also needed in offering tax advisory service yo clients. A good example of tax consultants in Nigeria with good and effective communication skills are  Taiwo Oyedele of PwC, Yomi Olugbenro of Deloitte and Touche, Wole Obayomi of KPMG etc.

2. Mathematical and Arithmetical Skills: This is needed by every tax consultants especially in the computations of taxable income, tax liabilities, capital allowances etc. That's why a tax expert from the legal profession needs to have the accounting knowledge in order to aid the preparation of taxable income and tax liability of company's clients.

3. Problem Solving Skills: A tax consultant must be able to solve problems relating to tax evasion and avoidance. He/She must know and also must be able to advise his/her clients about the various legal methods of reducing their tax liabilities without the incident of tax evasion and avoidance.
