This shows that the development of a state, nation or any society we find ourselves depends on the existence of individuals who have knowledge. Singapore central bank keeps policy neutral as 1Q GDP shrinks 1.9% on quarter Private economists remain optimistic about full-year growth SINGAPORE (Nikkei Markets) -- Singapore's economy lost momentum in the first quarter and the central bank said growth for the full year would be similar to last year's, confounding economists whose estimates were more bullish. The Ministry of Trade and Industry's flash estimates released on Thursday showed the economy shrank 1.9% quarter-on-quarter in the first three months of the year on an annualized and seasonally adjusted basis. The drag came from manufacturing, which contracted 6.6% after surging 39.8% in the preceding quarter. Year-on-year, the economy grew 2.5% in the January-March period, easing from the 2.9% expansion in the last quarter of 2016. The Monetary Authority of Singapore, which released its semi-annual policy decision around the same time, sounded a cautious note about manufacturing and noted other soft spots in

Ajimobi Appoints New Caretaker Chairmen of Local Governments Areas In Oyo State.

Image
Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has assured the people of the state that elections into the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) will be held as soon as the suit against it is settled. Governor Ajimobi said this while inaugurating the Caretaker Chairmen for the LGAs and LCDAs in the state at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. An Abuja High Court presided over by Justice John Tsoho had in January 2017, ordered the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) not to proceed with its plan to conduct the elections earlier slated for February 11. The order was sequel to a motion ex-parte filed on behalf of 16 Baales (traditional rulers) from Oyo Federal Constituency through their lawyer, Mr Ahmed Raji, pursuant to the creation of 35 LCDAs in the state. The Governor, however, noted at the inauguration ceremony that the polls would hold as soon as the case is settled. “The day the court case is settled is the day

Federal Government In Talks To Free Remaining Chibok Girls. For those who may have given up hope in the talks for the release of the remaining Chibok girls, there appears to be reason for optimism again. This is because the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, says talks are on-going for the release of more of the school girls still being held by the Boko Haram militants. The Vice President said this during an interaction with journalists and activists at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday night. He added that progress has been made in the negotiations, but cited the emergence of two factions in the Boko Haram camp, as reason for the seeming difficulty in securing the release of the girls. The renewed commitment is coming as the Bring Back Our Girls campaign group began a   week-long series of activities  to commemorate the third year since the abduction of the school girls. The group’s convener, Oby Ezekwesili, had accused the Federal Government of complacency and maintaining what

PORTFOLIO THEORY.

In 1952, a gentleman called Henry Max Markowitz, in an article drew attention to a general/common practice of portfolio diversification and demonstrated how an investor can reduce the standard deviation of portfolio returns by selecting securities that do not move exactly together i.e that move in opposite directions. He went further to work out the basic principles of portfolio construction. When considering investment appraisal, the traditional approach is to estimate the stand and deviation. Standard deviation is the variability of the return of the project and since standard deviation measures risk, it could be deduced that it is suitable for risk analysis. This method is only suitable when considering one project only. A rational investor will not place his eggs in one basket, he will rather spread them in other to avoid total loss. A rational investor will prefer to commit his funds in as many securities as possible which will collectively form his PORTFOLIO. A portfolio is t

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE NIGHT AT OAU AMPHI THEATRE.

11th April, 2017 was a memorable champions league night in OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY (OAU), at amphitheatre. Thousands of OAU students were delighted to watch the quarter final match between Italian side Juventus and Spanish side Barcelona. The champions league game show was organized by the United Bank of Africa(UBA) and the most interesting thing about the show is the refreshment package for the first 500 students. At the half time of the game, there was a raffle draw for some students and prizes were awarded to the winners at the end of the game show. The game later ended 3-0 in favour of Juventus. Two goals from Paulo Dybala and a goal from Gorgino Chellini made the day for Juventus. But people are doubting if Barcelona can make the same comeback just like they did against PSG. The champions league show of yesterday is not the first game show on campus but was also organized last month by UBA at the same venue, amphitheatre. Tonight again, there will also be a champions league
