Profile of The Tax Expert And Administrator, BABATUNDE Fowler.




Babatunde Fowler is an economist, tax expert and administrator. He was the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and was the chairman of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue and the Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS).

He's a graduate of Economics at the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater in the United States of America. He graduated in the year 1978.

He had his second degree at the California State University, Los Angeles and also had his Masters in Business Administration (MBA), at the California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1981.

He commenced his career in New York at Avon Products Inc. as a Marketing Intern serving under the Vice President of Africa.

He was later employed by Johnson and Johnson in New Jersey, USA under the MBA International Development Program which lasted for one year.

He was later transferred to the company's office in Nigeria between September 1982-1983.

He joined the banking sector in 1984 starting his career in the sector with Credit Lyonnais Nigeria Limited.
He served as a treasurer and later was appointed as the manager of the company's branch in Apapa, after gaining much experience in the banking industry.

He continued his banking career at Chartered Bank as a Senior Manager in 1990 where he spent his last 14 years in the banking industry. And he left the bank as a General Manager in 2004.

He was the first Vice Chairman of the United Nations Committee Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters around August 10, 2017.

After leaving the banking industry, he went to serve the Lagos State government and was appointed as a permanent secretary/ executive chairman of the Lagos State Board of Internal Revenue in 2005 and he is the first CEO of Lagos Internal Revenue Service.
His role and impact on the Lagos State economy made Lagos State an independent state that generates its revenue by itself without relying on federal allocation.

He was later appointed as the director of the Federal Inland Revenue Service in 2018 of which he also played vital role in eradicating the over dependence of the Federal Government on Oil Revenue.
