10. Seydou Keita Earning $1.4million

Keita is currently the captain of the Malian national team. He played for FC Barcelona as a defender where he earned $4.2m annually.

He signed a two-and-a-half-year deal in 2012 with Chinese side Dalian Aerbin FC in a contract worth €14 million per year. Returning to Spain, he signed with Valencia CF before signing a one-year contract with Italian club A.S. Roma in June 2014 in a deal worth €1 million.

9. Michael Essien Earning $2.9million

He plays currently for AC Milan. Essien spent five years with Lyon in France and was one time the most expensive African player of all time when he signed a contract worth £24.4 million for Chelsea in 2005

According to sources, his contract with Milan ended in 2015 and he would have his salary cut in half. This will see Essien earning €2.5 million per season.

8. Steven Pienaar Earning $4.8million

The South Africa born winger played for Everton and was the former captain of South Africa.

In July 2012, Everton paid Tottenham a fee of £4.5 million for Pienaar services.

7. Kolo Toure Earning $6 million

Liverpool defender and brother of Man City’s star midfielder, Yaya Toure, earns about £3.9 million annually. He had to leave Manchester City for Liverpool where he signed a two year deal with a pay cut. He now earns £90,000 every week

6. John Mikel Obi Earning $6.5million

Nigerian midfielder, John Obi Mikel who currently plies his trade with Tiajin Teda, a chinese football club where he signed a five year deal in December 2016 that saw an improvement in his weekly salary.

He collected £80,000 per week before in Chelsea, now the signing saw him collect £140,000 per week.

Update: The highest paid Nigerian footballer in the Premier League currently is Kelechi Iheanacho of Manchester City.

5. Christopher Samba Earning $7.5million
Congolese captain and defender, Samba made headlines when he moved to Anzhi where he earned $160,000 a week. He played 5 years for Blackburn before he signed for Dynamo Moscow in August 2013.

4. Emmanuel Adebayor Earning $16.7 million

Togolese striker and one time African player of the year left Man City to Tottenham in August 2012. When he was deemed fit to requirement by Spurs, his weekly wages dropped from $270,000 to $159,000, but still earns big through endorsement deals.

3. Samuel Eto’o Earning $16.4 million

Eto’o is seen in Africa as the most decorated player in terms of trophy overhaul. He played for top clubs like Barcelona, Intermilan, Chelsea, Everton, e.t.c. He is also rich as he earns $13.4million yearly playing for current club, Sampdoria in itally and $3 million from endorsements.

2. Didier Drogba Earning $17.8 million

The Ivorian born scorer spent eight years with Chelsea scoring 157 goals in 341 appearances and won 10 major trophies. He signed a $300,000 a week deal with Shanghai Shenhua in June 2012 for two-and-a-half-years. He later joined Galatasaray on a three year deal that saw him earn €10.9 million per season.

1. Yaya Toure Earning $21.7 million

Yaya Toure is currently the highest paid African footballer of the year and currently plays for Manchester City. He earns a weekly wage of £334,000. He makes money from endorsements and is an ambassador for Airtel. He lost his place to Aubumeyang of Borussia Dortmund as Africa’s Best Player of the Year 2015.
